For almost 7 months, I’ve been living out of my backpack. Wearing the same clothes every day, sleeping in different beds every night, eating the same dish every meal.
Traveling in five different countries, I’ve seen the most wonderful things. Living amongst people who have nothing but the biggest smiles on their faces, I came to understand how lucky we are. Not because we have everything we want, but because we have everything we need. We have the freedom to be.
What a relief to realise that actually I don’t need anything but myself. My home is where my heart is.
I lived from day to day, without a plan and I will keep living this way. A man told me once: “The only future you have to think about is what you are going to do now. Live your life in this moment, because thinking about the past or the future, will make this moment go away. And what does the future mean if you are not feeling happy now?”
I would recommend this to anyone. Stay true to yourself. Feel blessed with what you have. Stick a smile to your face. Give it to the people around you and accept the smiles you get in return. Don’t make any plans. Just breathe and feel happy.
And so because my flipflop feet need shoes again, I’m back in Belgium. For now.
